Able’s journey is one of extraordinary courage and determination. Diagnosed with leukemia at just 13 years old, she faced a battle that no child should ever have to endure. With the support of her family, medical team, and her own unwavering spirit, Able overcame cancer and emerged stronger than ever.

Today, she is a fifth year medical student, pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor so she can help others the way her doctors once helped her. Her message to children currently fighting cancer is heartfelt and powerful:

“You are not alone. You are braver and stronger than you think. You are ABLE to do anything you put your mind to. Just like me, you could even become a doctor and help save lives.”

Able’s inspiring story continues to uplift countless families facing similar challenges and it inspired us to create something meaningful in her honour.

Able the Lion

Our Comfort Buddy

In celebration of Able’s strength, Cupcakes of Hope created Able the Lion Comfort Buddy, a soft toy designed to bring reassurance and emotional support to children undergoing cancer treatment.

Able the Lion is filled with kids friendly medical equipment like a stethoscope, syringe, oxygen mask, gloves, plasters and gauze. Able the Lion also has a port which helps to explain to the children how chemo will be administered through play therapy. This simple, comforting companion helps reduce anxiety, fosters familiarity with medical procedures, and brings a sense of courage and hope—just like Able herself.
