~ And tells children fighting cancer that if ‘they keep fighting, I’ll keep baking!’ ~
As we celebrate International Childhood Cancer Day on 15th February 2019, we turn the spotlight onto a little girl – Chelsey, who although doesn’t suffer from any cancer related illnesses herself, is the driving force behind a series of local fund raising initiatives. Chelsey says she’s also ready for her first Cupcakes of Hope ‘baking’ challenge of 2019 to support International Childhood Cancer Day and is calling other South Africans to do the same.
Eight-year-old Chelsey, a pupil at Beaches Primary School, decided to ‘bake’ a difference last November and together with Woolworths Ballito Junction raised in excess of R12,000.00 for children fighting cancer. Chelsey did this by baking, and icing 150 cupcakes which she gave out at Ballito Junction for a R10 donation towards Cupcakes of Hope – a non-profit organisation that supports and raises funds for families fighting childhood cancer by encouraging volunteers to simply ‘BAKE’ a difference and donating their cupcakes.
Chelsey’s inspiration to get involved with Cupcakes of Hope was through her mom who wanted to find an initiative that she could get involved with that would help patients during their time fighting the disease. Chelsey decided she wanted to become a Cupcake Angel herself so signed up and is now involved in helping celebrate cancer milestones and happy birthdays and will continue helping these sick children fight this awful disease (check out Cupcakes of Hope’s Early Warning Signs here).
To encourage others to also #COHbakeadifference, KitchenAid is giving away a gorgeous mixer valued at R10,000 to one lucky winner who hosts their own Cupcakes of Hope ‘bake’ a difference initiative on International Childhood Cancer Day on 15thFebruary 2019. The great thing about this is that anyone can take part, young or old; it can be hosted at a school, at a local community centre or even in your workplace.
