This is Emma, my healthy 3-year-old girl who keeps me extremely busy and who I love endlessly. I am extremely lucky and so blessed. However, I know that many parents are not as fortunate as I am. To wake up one day and have your entire world shifted by the news that your child has a serious and possibly fatal illness is something I wish upon no one. The hopelessness, pain, and heartache – that alone will break me. And then looking at your brave little warrior who just received the same news, watching their eyes searching yours looking for some kind of reassurance that everything will be ok… NO… that is not fair! That cannot be fair! Yet so many families go through exactly that and to make matters worse, they do not always have the income or medical support needed to help their little warriors feel that, despite it all, they will have what they need to fight this, they will get the necessary medication, they will get that special mattress needed to make them comfortable, that prosthesis to replace a part of them taken by cancer or even just food or nappies. Little things that we, with our healthy children might sometimes take for granted. This is why I want to help raise funds for Cupcakes of Hope. And this is what I want to celebrate this June… I want to celebrate EVERY SINGLE BRAVE LITTLE WARRIOR fighting childhood cancer. You are the strongest amongst us and you deserve to be celebrated! I call on you all to PLEASE help and donate even if it is as little as R10 because even R10 can make an enormous difference to a child lying in the hospital fighting to beat an illness they never asked for nor deserve to have.
